Reducing Recidivism
Our client Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska is working with the Juneau Re-Entry Coalition, which was formed to educate the community on resources and successful prisoner re-entry outcomes. This important work is being developed to address Southeast Alaska’s high recidivism rate; in a 2012 report from the Alaska Justice Forum, the Southeast Alaska region had the highest misdemeanor rearrests and reconvictions out of all regions in Alaska. Furthermore, on average, the recidivism rate for Alaska Natives was higher than any other ethnic group. The current goals of the Coalition are to identify gaps in services, resources and education and to develop a strategy to address those gaps in Juneau. Weathervane Strategies’s priority is to find funding to address workforce reentry training.
