Let's Give! #GivingTuesday 2014
The turkey’s eaten, the Black Friday deals are over and Cyber Monday’s last mouse click has occurred. But all over the USA and Canada, consumers have added another post-Thanksgiving event to their calendar—#GivingTuesday.
This year, that’s today: Dec. 2, 2014.
And this year is shaping up to arguably be one of the most interesting and popular since the national day of giving was first coordinated just two years ago. President Obama recognized #GivingTuesday this year with an open letter, nonprofits in every state are banding together to get the most awareness of their missions and according to the United Nations Foundation, the number of Giving Tuesday partners worldwide has doubled since 2013.
We were curious how #GivingTuesday is being approached by organizations in our base states of Alaska and Wisconsin. Here’s an overview:
Alaska
Last year we saw much less participation than seems to be shaping up in 2014. The hashtags #GivingTuesdayAK and #GivingAK have had some success in raising awareness on social media, and we’ve seen more offline campaigns, too.
For Alaskan organizations, #GivingTuesday is a nice complement to the Pick.Click.Give. initiative that asks Permanent Fund Recipients to donate a part of their yearly checks to Alaskan projects. Pick.Click.Give. has seen $2.7 million pledged in 2014 so far. That’s awesome!

Wisconsin
Wisconsin nonprofits have been active in #GivingTuesday for several years, earning success with Razoo fundraisers and growing social media outreach.
